Introductory Blog for Global Scholars 2026 research

I am Charlize Morrison, a third-year student at Florida State University double majoring in International Affairs and Editing, Writing and Media. I am a sister of Kappa Delta Chi Sorority, Inc., the Dominican Student Association, and the Hispanic-Latine Pre-Law Society at FSU. I am currently in the Global Scholars program under the Center for Undergraduate Research. I am also completing the Global Citizenship Certificate. Being a Global Scholar means engaging with the world around me with curiosity, respect, and interest in making it better. My research will consist of a comparison between international students’ experiences in the United States and abroad, specifically in Valencia, Spain and surrounding areas. I want this experience to form me as a more grounded and informed person, researcher, and international student myself. I also plan to extend this Global Scholars research experience to become a significant part of my Honors in the Major thesis next semester.
I’m looking forward to exploring the beautiful city of Valencia and interacting/learning from the locals. I am also looking forward to speaking Spanish once again and finding community in the area.
I decided to focus on international students because as an international student myself, I have found the experiencing to be both rewarding and challenging, specifically when it comes to navigating the employment and complex immigration process. I hope to compare international students’ experiences beyond borders and to identify how institutions can support international students more based on their actual needs and lived experiences.
I would like to connect with international students prior to my trip. If you are an international student in Valencia or nearby areas, (on a student visa or non-citizen student of your host country) please feel free to DM me, as I would like to connect with you!
