Hi! My name is Michelle Ubeda and I am a criminology and International Affairs major. I am from Miami, Florida but my family is from El Salvador and Nicaragua. This summer I will be working with Huellas de Paz, a non-profit organization in Nicaragua who helps kids in marginalized communities have access to resources such as education. My role in this organization is to serve as a guide/tutor for a small group of kids, I will be helping them practice their english skills through conversation and literature. I lived in Nicaragua and visit frequently, giving me a deep understanding of how communities suffer from poverty and lack of accessible resources.
My expectations for this experience are to help this non-profit organization expand their doors to more students looking to learn english or learn how to read and write literature. Since my experience is remote, I am not sure how easy it will be to connect with the kids in the organization but I will put forth my best effort in order to make a difference.
