Since my summer experience is in Tallahassee, I don’t exactly feel like I have joined a new community. However, I do feel like I’ve seen a different side of the community throughout my internship. Listening to clients and reading about the different cases has changed the way I see my community and the people I work with. As I continue to meet new people in NGO, non-profit, and federal fields, I’ve gained a new perspective on the different kinds of people that form the Tallahassee community and what they contribute to it.
While a big part of the job I do is remote, I always enjoy the times when I can join conferences, events, and meet with my coworkers. I’ve learned a lot about human trafficking and sadly, how prevalent it can be in a community where many people don’t even know it happens. By getting to know my environment and hear personal stories of people in these situations, I’ve become more aware and determined to the cause I work for. I love my internship and everything I’ve learned so far has helped shape the way I view my community.
