My name is Fiona Giardino, and I am a second-year public health major from Jupiter, Florida. My summer experience involves me hopefully being a part of the Donald J. Weidner Program this summer which is a prelaw program for students interested in going to law school in the future. Along with this four-week program, I am continuing to conduct research with my research mentor, Dr. Grzywacz, on the project “Preparing for the Next Pandemic”. This project deals with the farmworker community and how they have been negatively affected by the Covid 19 pandemic and how we can make recommendations to make sure this does not happen again during the next pandemic. My expectations for my experience are that I will be experiencing new opportunities like the prelaw program and that I am excited to be considered for this program as it is highly competitive. I have been working on the Preparing for the Next Pandemic research for a couple of semesters now, so I believe I am prepared to continue doing research for this project and excited to keep doing it. I am not sure if I will get into the Donald J. Weidner Program this summer as I am currently on the waitlist for this program and not sure if I will make it off the list. There were over 1,000 applicants for this program and only 60 spots available to students, so I am hoping I get a spot.
This photo represents me at the moment as I am pretty happy right now and excited for the summer as I get to relax and complete my experiences where I am ready.
