My name is Lauren Burch and I am a current third-year student at Florida State University majoring in Behavioral Neuroscience. I grew up in Miami, Fl. After completing my undergraduate, I hope to go to medical school.
This summer I will be completing my EMT certification. I have just begun my medical experience currently working under an orthopedic surgeon, and wish to seek the same in emergency medicine. With my current experience working for and with the community of Tallahassee I hope to further expand and use what I know in an emergency setting. I also am an adrenaline junky and want to know if this high-stress position is for me. I also want to learn more about the community that I have been a part of for 3 years living in Tallahassee and use my knowledge in medicine and apply it to those in need.
I am very excited to start my certification and gain experience starting my medical career, but I would be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous. I know how I handle stress, at least with my current experience, but in this emergency setting I do wonder if this responsibility would result in me cracking under the pressure or burning out. But going in open-minded and remaining open and honest with myself and those around me when it comes to the health of someone else, I know how to tackle that if I do ever feel overwhelmed.
