After I had been accepted into the Global Scholars program, I was excited (and a little anxious) about what my summer would hold. I didn’t know where I’d be going or how I would get there but I just knew I would go somewhere abroad. Additionally, I knew that my experience would be along the lines of criminal justice/law since that is the field I plan to have as my future career. My summer experience in London gave me everything I wanted from it and more, I was able to get hands-on experience and mentorship in criminal law as well as in other areas of law that I could potentially practice. How I plan to use the resources and advice given to me this summer is to start studying for the LSAT this fall. Starting to study now gives me enough time to learn everything I need to at the pace I want to meet the deadlines of law school applications.
My capstone is on a steady track in discussing impactful change through legal advocacy and public service. This experience highlighted the importance of community engagement and the role that legal professionals play in advocating for justice and equity. Not only did I read and argue different cases dealing with this topic but I got to sit in on court proceedings to observe how all this works together and the people these changes will be helping.
