Wrapping Camp Up

Hi everyone!

Though my camp experience ended a few weeks ago, I am still so sad that camp is over for the summer. I made incredible, formidable relationships with my coworkers, and learned so much about myself throughout the process.

Before camp, I was nervous about how working with kids would be. Would the kids like me? Would I make a good counselor? Will I be friends with my coworkers? There were a plethora of doubts and uncertainties I had going into my experience at camp.

Once I got to camp though, I was welcomed into not only a group of people I work with, but a true family who embraced me, my quirks, and my uniqueness. Working with kids changed my life, because I realized that they truly do not care what you look like, where you are from, or any of the superficial things that adults have to deal with. They truly love you for being present and caring, and I will never forget how incredible it was to see them grow and accomplish so many amazing things.

With all of our classes we had at camp, there were opportunities for kids to “level up” in their courses and independence, and I even got to witness one of the oldest campers get “Knighted”, which was so exciting to see. Camp truly brought out the best in me and made me realize that all the things I was worried about before do not truly matter. It has made me a more optimistic, outgoing person, and I could not be more thankful for that.

With that being said, for my Capstone I have all of my ideas focused on my topic and feel like I am making significant progress into having a great final project! I am super excited to see how that goes and how I can tie camp back into future plans!
