Reflection on my experience

Upon my acceptance into the Global Scholars Program, I initially knew that I would want my summer experience to relate to reproductive care, public health, and international maternal and infant health. Through my internship with Uganda Development and Health Associates, I was able to see the interconnectedness of these interests firsthand rather than through statistics in research or stories in the media. As more time passed throughout the duration of my internship, I realized how pressing the matter of reproductive health is in Uganda and the series of implications following a lack of reproductive health knowledge. Although looking back on my experience, my feelings, and interests have not changed, I would say that my knowledge on the topic has been altered, furthering my understanding of how a lack of education can impact a population.

Following this internship and as I prepare for my Capstone, I believe that I will have a solid understanding and further insight on the issues of reproductive care, public health, and international maternal and infant health and can educate my peers in order to truly make a difference.
