My Day to Day!

When I started working at the State Attorney’s Office I was scheduled Monday through Thursday and worked from about 8:30 until 3:00/3:30. However, after about a month of this routine I began taking classes and working, so I decreased my office time to just Monday through Wednesday. I actually was really sad to cut down on my time at work because of how much the extra time helped me learn and fit into the office routine. In the end, working less ended up being totally okay since I had pretty much already figured out my daily tasks.

As I said, an average day for me this summer starts at 8:30, after I take a beautiful drive to the island(ish) my work is on. I normally spend the first thirty minutes catching up on emails and loose ends from the day before. Then, around 9:00, I go see what the attorney I work with has planned for the day. Sometimes she is going to court, and other days she is working on her caseload, interviewing victims, and much more. Depending on what her day looks like, we may walk over to the court house at that point or I start working on paperwork. A lot of the paperwork I do consists of declining cases that don’t have enough evidence and collecting pre-trial information on cases that do have enough to move forward. Some other days I go to Baker Act Hearings or our specialized Court hearings with some of the other lawyers who specialize in those areas. Everyday looks very different, and that’s what I love about this internship so much. I’ve had so much fun and learned so much so far.
