Hi everyone! I hope you are doing well!
Recently, I finished up my experience and therefore had more time to reflect on things that were important to me that have been forgotten by the news and media.
My background and passion has always been humanitarianism and fighting for social justice for those globally. As someone who has written for multiple media platforms, I understand the ins and outs of journalism, and how the media operates through trends. I think the danger with media today is that with our fast paced world, important crises get recycled so quickly. Everyone sees the new thing to worry about, and we forget about the suffering of the headline before; we chalk up peoples lives to being the front of the paper, and when new news comes in, we forget about other the human beings from yesterdays paper who still need help too.
I care the most about causes that people advocate for passionately, but then abandon when the next new streamline cause hits the media. It is devastating to say but there are people out there who are forgotten by those of us who get to live in comfort as their lives are being torn apart. The Uyghur Muslims are still in camps in China, the Taliban is fully occupying Afghanistan, the Rohingya people of Myanmar are still displaced living on boats, and the South Sudanese people live in a constant state of danger. They are the headlines of yesterday but still need help today, which people forget when the next crisis is put in the media. My heart breaks for the people whose cries for help are unheard by those who are not suffering from their pains, and I wish we would not so quickly forget those who still need our help.
Although I know it may not relate, the picture for my blog today is for the UNICEF donation page, to encourage you to donate to children and families who are in need globally.
In regards to the media though as well, my Capstone draft is complete!
Thank you for reading,
