Farewell to My Project: A Summer to Remember across Europe!

As my summer project comes to an end, I find myself reflecting on an unforgettable journey that has profoundly shaped my perspective on the world. This summer has been a whirlwind of new experiences, cultural immersion, and personal growth. From my internship in Valencia, Spain, to my travels across Europe, including a memorable visit to London, England, I’ve gained insights that will stay with me forever.

My Experience Over the Summer

This summer has been a time of immense learning and exploration. In Valencia, my internship at Fisiolife Physical Therapy Clinic provided hands-on experience in physiotherapy, allowing me to observe and perform treatments, including using a radiofrequency machine. This practical exposure has been invaluable for my professional development and has solidified my interest in the healthcare field.

Traveling has also been a significant part of my journey. In London, I had the opportunity to visit iconic landmarks such as the London Bridge, The Tower of London, Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, and Westminster Abbey Church. Each site was a window into the rich history and vibrant culture of England. The visit to Buckingham Palace, in particular, was a highlight, seeing the grandeur of the British monarchy up close.

Shaping My Worldview

This experience has broadened my care in European clinics, especially during my internship at Fisiolife in Valencia, and has given me a new perspective on the healthcare system in the U.S. I’ve come to appreciate the importance of personalized patient care and the benefits of integrating advanced technology in treatments.

Traveling across various countries has also highlighted the cultural diversity and historical richness of Europe. Each city, from Valencia to Madrid, Rome to London, offered unique insights and experiences. These travels have made me more open-minded and appreciative of the world’s vast diversity, and have inspired me to continue exploring and learning about different cultures.

Capstone Project Update

My Capstone Project focuses on comparing the time efficiency in attending to patients in the U.S. healthcare system versus European systems. Here’s an update on its progress:

What’s Going Well

  • Data Collection: I’ve gathered substantial data from my observations and experiences in European clinics, especially in Spain. This includes patient interaction times, treatment efficiency, and the use of technology in patient care.
  • Interviews and Insights: Conducting interviews with healthcare professionals in Valencia provided valuable qualitative data. Their insights into the benefits and challenges of the European healthcare model have been instrumental in shaping my project.

What’s Not Going So Well

  • Data Analysis: Analyzing the collected data and drawing meaningful comparisons with the U.S. healthcare system has been challenging. The healthcare models are inherently different, and finding common metrics for comparison requires careful consideration.
  • Access to U.S. Data: While I have access to European data, obtaining comparable data from U.S. clinics has been more difficult. I am currently reaching out to professionals and institutions in the U.S. to fill this gap.

Moving Forward

As I wrap up my summer project and prepare to return home, I am filled with gratitude for the experiences and learning opportunities I’ve had. This journey has not only enhanced my professional skills but also enriched my personal growth. I am excited to continue working on my Capstone Project, utilizing the insights gained from this summer to make meaningful contributions to the field of healthcare.

This summer has truly been a transformative experience, shaping how I view the world and my future healthcare career. I look forward to carrying these lessons with me as I continue my academic and professional journey.
