Day in the Life of a Fellow

My routine here in London is drastically different than my routine in the United States.

On Wednesday, July 17th, the day was very long. I awoke around 7am to get ready and dressed to get ready for the law firm Kesar & Co who specialize in prison law. I was done around 7:35am to gather my laptop and other essentials for the day and head to a café down the street. I got a peach iced tea and a chocolate croissant and sat with a couple fellows until it was time to head to the lobby of our apartment to meet up with the group to commute to the law firm. At 8:30am we were all off to the tube station Tower Hill, get off at Victoria then take the above train to Bromley for the day. The commute was over 70 minutes!!

While at the law firm we greeted the attorney that will be mentoring us for the day and got started with the case for the day. One team fought for the victim (me) while the other half got defended the officers that were at fault (happy to report we won!!). Afterwards we had more conversation about the issues this attorney saw in their day to day, any advice she had for us, a few more example cases to discuss, and finally a group picture to end the day. We had worked for 2hr 30mins before we departed for lunch nearby at the Cow&Pig Bromley. The food was absolutely delicious! Once we were all finished with lunch we took the bus to the nearby station to take the train back to Victoria, then from there back to Tower Hill. We arrive back at the apartment around 2:30pm to change into casual clothes and head to the office for our legal training session (3-5:30pm). During this training session we learned more in-depth about criminal law and things to expect during our 1L year from the fellowship’s legal associate.

After all this learning and debating, I was absolutely exhausted from the day so I sat in the apartment for a little bit to relax. At 6:30pm we walked to a nearby burger spot to place a to-go order, picked-up, and chatted during the walk home. When we got home, my roommates and I had a movie night in front of the tv, we watched “Legally Blonde”. I concluded the night with a shower and was asleep by 9pm.

Overall, it was a great day!!
