A Farewell to Prague: A JFK Airport Adventure

My experience studying human rights and genocide in Prague, Czechia was absolutely life-changing. I deeply appreciate this program and all I learned about the history of the struggle for human rights in Europe. Returning to the US, I have a much more nuanced understanding of the international human rights regime and the historical tragedies that motivated its creation. This understanding will be helpful as I transition my IDEA Grant Research into my Honors in the Major Project.

On another note, my journey home was a bumpy ride, to say the least. After arriving at JFK airport from Prague, Delta Airlines was dealing with major technical difficulties that led to the cancellation of every domestic flight. To add to this, the tropical storm hitting Florida made rebooking flights very uncertain. I ended up spending 26 hours in the JFK airport and having my flight rebooked 4 times. I was finally able to make it on a flight to Tampa, which spent an extra hour in the air flying in circles during the tropical storm because it was unsafe to land. Never in my life had I seen so many people crying and praying. That flight was terrifying!

I am sad that my wonderful experience studying in Prague has come to an end, but I am feeling great relief to have finally made it home safely. I am excited to apply my experience in Prague to my larger Capstone Project in the coming weeks.
