From Rome to Valencia: Exploring the Layers of Community Through History and Culture

Visiting the Trevi Fountain, the Colosseum, and Vatican City in Rome profoundly expanded my understanding of what makes up a community. These iconic landmarks provided a glimpse into how deeply history and culture influence a community’s identity. The Trevi Fountain, with its intricate sculptures and the tradition of tossing coins for wishes, showcased the artistry and cultural heritage of Rome. Standing before the Colosseum, I felt connected to the grandeur of ancient Rome and its impact on contemporary culture. With its immense religious and historical significance, exploring Vatican City deepened my appreciation for how spiritual beliefs shape a community.

My experiences in Europe, especially during my internship in Valencia, allowed me to immerse myself in different cultural environments and see how communities are shaped not just by their locations but by their shared history, values, and traditions. This journey highlighted the diversity of what constitutes a community. It’s not just about where you are but also about the shared experiences and cultural elements that bring people together.

This exploration has reshaped my concept of community by showing me how communities can be defined by a rich tapestry of historical and cultural elements. Whether through the awe-inspiring sites of Rome or the daily life of my internship in Spain, I’ve come to appreciate the various ways in which people connect and build their sense of belonging. This experience has broadened my perspective on the profound ways in which history and culture intertwine to create vibrant and diverse communities.
