Overall, I am very grateful for my internship opportunity with Uganda Development and Health Associates. As I approach the end of my experience, I have enjoyed reflecting on not only what I have done throughout this internship but also the insight and knowledge that I have gained through this time. I have learned about differing health needs throughout specific regions of Uganda and have been able to compare that to health issues within the United States, observe how social determinants of health impact populations, and understand the importance of education in preventative care and public health as a whole.
Going into this internship, I had a slight idea of what I wanted to do for my CapStone Project, as I knew I wanted to learn more about how social determinants of health impact and influence the health of communities. Through the progression of my internship and through biweekly meetings and communication with our supervisor doing fieldwork in Uganda for UDHA, I have expanded upon my interest in the field of global public health and learned more about how influential social determinants of health are to a society. As the internship comes to a close, although I am sad that it has come to an end, I am enthusiastic about the information I have learned and how I can apply that to not only the Global Scholars Program but to a potential future career and perspectives as a global citizen.
