Community Engagement in Addressing Issues

While interning for Uganda Development and Health Associates, my team of fellow interns and I have learned more about the communal issues within the populations we are working with. The major stressor impacting such communities is the lack of sexual and reproductive health services and education. Although social determinants of health differ depending on different populations, the lack of such family planning services proves to be a primary point of attention and need, so our organization has implemented a variety of outlets and efforts towards giving mothers, families, women, and children the resources and education that they need in order to lead a healthy life.

By understanding the complexities and intricacies of certain health issues within a community, individuals are able to unify and address such issues. In the case of sexual and reproductive health, UDHA has brought unity in addition to specific services, resources, and classes in order to truly make a change that can impact generations to come.
