In Kathmandu life is centered around religion, Hinduism, and Buddhism. There are temples on every street, as well as religious sights scattered throughout the city. Solidarity looks like support and over kindness.
This past week was Teacher’s Day, a day where schools celebrate their educators. As I am a teaching mothers English, they told me I had to come to the school on Sunday so that we could celebrate. When I got there they gave me gifts and candy as well as traditional celebratory practices. As a culture they celebrate a lot and spend a lot of time as a community.
A very big problem in Kathmandu is the drainage. Many schools have been shut down and temporarily moved for years at a time because there is no proper drainage. It’s not just in public buildings but in private properties as well. This also makes it difficult during monsoon season, when the streets get flooded.
