Every day I wake up at 8 a.m. to get ready and I order breakfast. I get dressed and pack my bag, including sunglasses, umbrella, and notebook. Around 9 a.m. I eat my breakfast and drink my coffee. Then at 9:30, I leave to walk to the school I am volunteering at. It takes about 20 ish minutes to get there, passing through local Kathmandu areas. I usually get to the school right before 10 and I sign in and head to the classroom I teach in. There I greet my students who most often arrive before me since they drop off their children at the school. Then I began my lesson, this week’s focus was on parts of speech. Then at 11:30, we take a 15-minute break. This often aligns with the children’s recess, so the mothers go and spend time with their kids. This week, the students of the school have been coming into the classroom to hang out and talk to me. We draw or talk about things we like to do, and it is very easy to communicate with them since they speak English very well. After the break is over, I continue with the lesson.
The past two weeks the young students have had their end of year exams so they finish their school day early. Due to this my students children have been joining us for the last half of the lesson. My class ends at 12:30 p.m. and I stay at the school for a couple more hours, volunteering in the classrooms. I leave around 3:30/4 p.m. and head to get lunch and go for a walk. Around 6 p.m. I head back to my hotel and plan my lesson out for the next day. I eat dinner around 7:30/8 p.m. and go to sleep around 10:30.
