Transitions and perspective changes

As my internship has progressed, I have definitely seen my transition shift from uncertainty to confidence. I feel as if I am finally in the swing of things, and I believe that our semi-weekly meetings have encouraged me to further understand the intricacies of the behind-the-scenes of nonprofit organizations. My team and I have excellent communication, which I believe is one of the primary contributors to this smooth transition. Going into this internship, knowing that it would be remote, I feared that communication was going to be a struggle. However, the other interns and I have ensured that communication is prioritized, whether that be through the distribution of tasks and workload, attending semi-weekly meetings with both the team and supervisor doing fieldwork in Uganda, or breaking into smaller groups to complete projects efficiently and timely.

After meetings with our supervisor, who elaborated on relevant struggles within the communities he works with, I have realized how social determinants of health differ depending on location and how our experience, as individuals living in the United States, in healthcare systems and specific health-related issues is drastically different from health challenges in Uganda. With that being said, I believe that my overall perspective has changed entirely, and I am able to better analyze health differences from an unbiased viewpoint.

Based on what I have interpreted so far, I believe that I will likely do something related to social determinants of health for my CapStone project.
