Hi, I’m Ella!

Hey everyone! My name is Ella Windlan and I am an Editing, Writing, & Media, and International Affairs major about to finish my second year at FSU. I am originally from Hudson Florida, a small town about an hour north of Tampa. Throughout my collegiate journey, I have dedicated myself to service and advocacy, and through the Global Scholars program, I plan on continuing to work toward my goal of learning and creating positive, sustainable world change.

Over the summer, I plan to focus on human rights advocacy through two experiences. My first experience is an independent research project through FSU’s IDEA Grant Program, where I will be conducting research into predictive and data-driven policing practices as a human rights issue. This is research I was inspired to conduct after seeing the detrimental repercussions this style of law enforcement inflicted upon the people in my hometown. My second experience is an international program in Prague, Czech Republic where I will have the opportunity to learn about human rights violations and mitigation strategies experientially by meeting with NGO leaders and social workers and visiting historic sites.

I am trying to keep my expectations very open concerning both of my experiences, but I feel incredibly lucky and excited to get started so soon. Although both of my experiences have the potential to be very emotionally taxing, I am so incredibly grateful that I will be empowered with so much knowledge in such a short period. I predict that my research and travels this summer will be foundational and life-changing for me, and I am so appreciative of all of the amazing people and donors who have believed in me along the way. I look forward to updating you throughout my journey!
