Hi! My name is Lara and I am a sophomore studying Political Science and International Affairs. I am from Niterói, Brazil, and this summer I will be going back to my hometown to volunteer as an assistant at the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Rio de Janeiro. I will also be volunteering at Seeds of Hope, an educational organization in Huaraz, Peru, as part of my summer experience.
I expect to learn more about education, a meaningful interest of mine, during these experiences. While in Brazil, I hope to reconnect with my home community and contribute to it in a meaningful way. In Peru, I hope to learn about the organization’s approach to educational support, and also the community’s culture and language. I am sure there will be unexpected parts of these experiences I haven’t encountered yet, but I am excited to engage with and learn from them this summer!
