My Space While Working Remote

The maps of my spaces I inhabit daily are unique to my internship as a PIRG Fellow. Due to my experience being 100% remote, my work life revolves around this. My apartment room is very important to me as it facilitates my ability to complete my work and participate in my internship to the best of my ability. My desk is where I am on my laptop constantly. I made sure I have a comfortable desk chair because I am either working on meetings, campaign planning, holding meetings, or any other kind of work I need to do. I also spend a large portion of time sleeping so I am in bed to re energize for the next day. I also have a TV in my room which I use to help unwind and watch whatever movie or tv series I’m watching at the time. This is great to help me keep my mind off working and give me a form of enjoyable entertainment and keep me motivated with everything going on.  However, to compensate for a large portion of time being in my room, I am constantly out and about when I get the chance. When I need to eat, I try to find locations I can go to so I can get out of my room more. I also go to the gym almost everyday so I included it as my second map because it is so important to my daily lifestyle. I love the gym. The gym keeps me active, reduces stress, and helps me stay healthy and in shape. The gym definitely helps the most for keeping my mind off of work because I can go with friends and also get out of my room. I also have two separate gym locations I can choose from. Because I stayed in Tallahassee to take summer classes and complete my remote internship, I was able to enjoy the Tallahassee gym and my apartment’s gym (my apartment gym is actually really nice). Each gym had different pros and cons. For example, the FSU gym is bigger and is a more sociable experience because I can see friends while the apartment gym is closer and more convenient. Both allowed me to take my mind off of work.

The similarity between my living spaces before and during my experience are that they have very similar themes. I still used my desk, bed, tv, gym, and interacting with friends. The main difference now is that I spend different proportions of time with each one. Because of the summer, a lot of my friends went back home so I’m spending less time hanging out with friends and more time spent at my desk doing homework or work for my internship. I have also developed a new appreciation for finding alternative work spots so I can spend less time in my room and so I can be more active.
