A series of stories that have been catching my eye for a long time is how most artists are often portrayed as having major drug problems in their regular life. I cannot disagree with the genuineness of these stories for some of the biggest stars we know about. However, in my small database, the artists I got to interview, I noticed a very different pattern. There was often consumption of mild drugs to fuel creativity, however, they seemed to have a healthy relationship with these drugs. An artist once told me, ‘Instead of fighting against them, I fight with them’, when talking about some of the stuff he consumed regularly.
The way media portrays art culture and its relation to drug consumption, I believe it’s blown way out of proportion. The creative stimulation part of the process of this consumption is almost always left out and all that is talked about is artists’ unhealthy habits and life practices. I believe that most of the Indian independent artists in the Millennial or Gen Z are really smart about how they have to navigate through their body to get the results they want, while making sure these practices are sustainable for their minds and body as well in the long term.
My CapStone project is in its earlier stages right now. I am trying to combine all the information I have provided in blogs and trying to stitch all of it properly.
