I just finished week 5 of my TEFL program. Tt’s crazy to think there’s only two weeks left, time goes by so fast. I tutored 3 times again this week, and I think there is a fast learning curve because I already feel a lot more confident during my lessons. I think preparation is key. When I plan for every minute of the lesson I don’t feel nervous or like I’m scrambling. It’s definitely a long process figuring this all out, I imagine I will grow more confident and become a better teacher with time and practice.
When considering what solidarity looks like in this community, I think it manifests as immense support of one another. I remember at one point this week, I asked my professor if she could help me after class because I was having trouble with one of my tutees (I felt like I wasn’t using the best method to explain present tense and confusing her). But my professor said I should ask her at that moment, because maybe my peers are having the same issue. I spoke about my problem and everyone chimed in with support and advice. It was great to hear from everyone’s varying perspectives.
