Meet the Entrepreneurship Team

Jolene Jones, Entrepreneurship Co-lead,
STEM Entrepreneurship major

The iGEM program has been an excellent opportunity for me to apply my entrepreneurial skills to a health (therapeutic) product. Through the program, I have partnered with Entrepreneurship students, faculty, and Entrepreneurs-in-Residence (EIR) to explore how our product can be commercialized for the communities we serve and for the advancement of science. To which, we all, no matter our professional backgrounds are devoted to positively impacting. Working alongside those with so much merit within the hard sciences, medicine, engineering, computer science, entrepreneurship, and the other respective studies that the 2023 FSU iGEM Cohort encompasses is a remarkably insightful experience.

One that I believe shows how crucial multi-disciplinary skillsets are to academia. I can proudly say that our cohort embodies the passion for research that any program would hope for. Which is why John & myself are able to approach the entrepreneurial implementation stage with such high hopes for the future of this product. This November, I am excited to bring our work to the global stage in Paris for the 2023 iGEM Grand Jamboree.

John Amos, Entrepreneurship Co-Lead,
STEM Entrepreneurship major

I joined the FSU iGEM team because I thought it would be fun, and it certainly has been! Being a member of the FSU iGEM team has taught me many things and has been a great experience. Being a member of the leadership division as the Entrepreneurship Co-Lead, I have learned many things both through my research with the team as well as during meetings (learning about other members’ findings). Being on the team has given me real-world experience that I can apply outside of iGEM.

I have learned more about conducting proper research, presenting it to others, and designing business models for STEM companies. One of my favorite parts of iGEM has been the people. I have met people in iGEM from a diverse set of fields and backgrounds that I never would have otherwise. As for my jobs and tasks, I mostly do market research to find ways to make our concept economically viable. It’s been great so far, like Jolene, I look forward to our final product in November!
