Amoy Robinson: Hitting the Ground Running

My time at the North Florida Innovation Labs has been nothing short of amazing. The days are filled with meetings and tasks that align perfectly with my career goals. The executive director Bill Lickson has been a great resource for when I need more guidance or just want to ensure I’m on the right path. My first day I met the Mayor of Tallahassee, John Dailey, while on a hard hat tour of the future Innovation Lab building. It was a great experience being able to capture such a great first day which built the momentum of my time here.

I’m currently working on a new internship program for future interns for the fall and spring semester. Everything is being built from the ground up allowing me to have full creative control of what I’m doing. Having so much freedom to create my own task is something quite new to me. However, I believe that it is greatly beneficial because it’s teaching me how to function like an entrepreneur. Being able to delegate and be self accountable is one of the most valuable skills that entrepreneurs can have. A lot of my roles have been in marketing which is teaching me that I enjoy marketing more than I thought I did

Before starting my internship I was afraid that I was going to have a hard time adjusting to the structure of an office job. However, these last few weeks I have felt completely expected and as though I’m a part of the team. My ideas are validated and taken seriously. I ensure that I speak up when I believe that my opinion would be valuable. North Florida Innovation Labs is teaching me a lot about myself and how to be more productive than I have ever been. This is all so new to me and I’m very grateful for the opportunity that I’ve been given. One of my major goals here is to ensure that those who come after me have a good foundation and are able to succeed in this role. I want to leave a notable impact on this company that will allow me to continue to grow in my career.
