Judah Bachmann’s Blog Post

This week, we are spotlighting Judah Bachmann! Judah is a first-year student majoring in Studio Art.

Judah is a student research assistant in UROP, the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program. In UROP, Judah is working on “The Open Call Podcast”. The Open Call Podcast is co-hosted by Anne Stagg, Judah’s research mentor. The podcast focuses on how the pandemic has affected visual arts and the importance of art, focusing on discussion with artists, curators, and art organizations.

Judah is an inquisitive student whose academic interests lie in languages and linguistics. They state, “I love learning about the intricacies of human communication, whether through spoken or visual language”. Aside from being someone who loves to learn, Judah likes music production and design.

As a UROP student, Judah enjoys how research can be so interconnected with other disciplines and can be approached non-traditionally: “My favorite part of UROP has been learning about the breadth of possibilities for interdisciplinary research, and I have enjoyed taking part in a non-traditional arts-based research project.”

As the school year comes to a close, Judah reflects on the skills they learned and how it will aid them in helping others: “I plan to take the skills I have learned and honed and apply them to my research interests, particularly in language study. In particular, I hope to use my podcast editing skills to aid other on-campus organizations in telling their story.”

Lastly, Judah emphasizes that because research is so diverse, there is always something for someone: “Don’t be afraid to try it out! There is a research project for everyone, and you never know how your talents can apply to real-life research.”

If you are interested in applying to UROP for the 2022 to 2023 school year, be sure to apply by May 1st using the link:
