Introducing Myself

Greetings! My name is Janelle Michel and I am a third-year Social Work major. I am from Broward County, FL (Miramar to be exact). I have just received the amazing news that I will be embarking on a Summer internship in Pristina, Kosovo collaborating and contributing to an NGO called Forum for Leadership and Diplomacy. The NGO has expressed its mission as the following: “…dedicated to empowering and educating young women and girls, especially those from Kosovo minority groups and disadvantaged backgrounds. It’s led by Njomza Emini, a social worker, and former national legislator.”

As Kosovo is looking to build its connection to the United States, I will be a part of establishing this NGOs connection with Florida State University in hopes that more students will go and intern in that nation. From this experience, I expect to know more about legislation, international social work/ human rights, and what it takes to develop diplomacy between nations.

The opportunity fell into my lap, so I had to do my research on Kosovo. I hadn’t heard of the country beforehand. Despite the research I have done, I’m still walking into this new, unexpected opportunity. Naturally, I’m feeling nervous but excited nonetheless.
