My name is Janelle Deloatch, and I’m a political science major from Miami, FL. Over the summer I will be a Government Relations intern with the ASPCA. As I watched documentaries such as Cow-spiracy and Earthlings, and delved deeper into the environmental, social, and animal issues caused by the consumption of animal products, this knowledge became my motivation for a plant-based lifestyle. My Government Relations internship with the ASPCA allows me to be at the forefront of an organization leading the nation and world in animal welfare and environmental protection.
One expectation I have, and I am very excited for is the opportunity to identify policy barriers and needs, craft legislative proposals, and interact with legislative leaders on both the federal and state levels to advance animal welfare policy.I’m not sure about how involved I will be in working directly with legislative leaders or attending Capitol Hill briefings, which makes me nervous because I’m not very confident in my public speaking, but I hope this internship pushes me to be better.
