3,2,1 Goals

By Taylor Haul

Three things I want to do during my summer experience are to first network with doctors and patients to help me in my future. The second thing I want to accomplish is creating a more positive and less stressful environment between patients and doctors during work. Lastly, the third thing I want to do is motivate women who are interested in orthopedics to go after their dreams and not let any stereotypes or negative perceptions tear them down. I plan on accomplishing all of these simply through the process of me working in an orthopedic hospital as well as through the research I am conducting along the way. I plan on networking with doctors and patients by really applying myself and engaging in my work. I also plan to sell myself so that doctors can see my skill, motivation, and work ethic when it comes to orthopedics. This will help me build my own resume and experience to prepare myself for medical school, but I could also find connections along the way I can carry with me for s long time. I also plan on creating a positive environment in the workplace for patients and doctors by helping as much as possible, so workers are not under as much stress. I also want to be a motivator and uplift the workers I am around as I know how challenging working in a hospital can be. I think with these actions the workplace and patient care provided will be much more successful. Finally, I plan to accomplish persuading and motivating women that want to pursue orthopedics but are scared by showing them I can do it as well as finding solutions to the microaggressions and stereotypes women face in this field. I plan on advocating to prevent any negative perceptions there are about women working in this field! Two skills I plan on developing throughout this process are my professionalism and career and self-development skills. These are crucial skills for being successful in the real-world work environment and I think this internship will provide me with just that. I will have to show up every time in the hospital being extremely professional. I want both patients and the doctors to see how serious I am taking this amazing opportunity. Also, this will help my career and self-development skills as it is giving me experience in the exact direction I want to go for my future career. The song I am using to resonate with my experience is adventure of a lifetime by coldplay. I am choosing this for a couple of reasons. The first being I just went to his concert a couple days ago in Las Vegas and had the time of my life! The second reason is because I really do believe this experience will be the adventure of a lifetime for me. I have always dreamed of this moment working in an orthopedic hospital and it is finally happening! I am ready for any obstacle, challenge, or miracle to come my way.
