People, Perspectives, Me

By Maria Clara Oliveira

1. The direct stakeholders of the issue I am exploring this summer are unhoused individuals, the indirect stakeholders of the issue are the Central Florida Government.

2. I do not have any personal experience with being homeless, however, I was always interested in underrepresented communities and communities who are often judged by others. Being from a third-world country, contrasting the way homeless are treated in Brazil vs the U.S. makes me consider the different means to which one country can treat a certain community different than the other and how one country can learn from the action of another to implement a new change.

3. The perspective in my research are of those who actually experienced being homeless and those who work close to unhoused people. I think a perspective that is missing is from government or communual perspectives such as a average Central Florida resident or someone who organizes town hall meetings, people who deal with community issues on the daily basis.

4. I see myself being the advocate because my main goal is to bring a light to unheard voices and to understand their circumstances and find ways to help them. We often hear of decision made by the government, town hall or homeless organization regarding the different ways they think of helping the homeless but we never hear how the homeless feel about their efforts and what change that hasn’t been done that they would like to see.

My reaction because it getting closer to the date that I will begin interviews
