My Habits to Keep Me Sane

To positively contribute to my well-being, I firstly try to focus on my exercise and diet in order to keep my body healthy which in turn benefits my mind. I also play a lot of sports with my friends which keeps us all active especially with our busy schedules from school and work which keeps us lethargic. I also enjoying working on creative projects like music with friends which is able to keep our brains fresh and innovative. Sometimes though I feel like sometimes I can get into a very boring and repetitive routine which is why I like to make small changes in a day like trying a new food or exploring a new place, and those small changes can bring positive change when I’m feeling deflated.

To impact my community, I enjoy attending or participating in local events like music shows and fairs, and although my role isn’t very significant in those events it is still impactful to be a part of something that is able to help grow the local scene and market near you. It is also exciting to network with new people and support organizations like bands that are able to create more influence when you don’t have that type of motion yourself.

And finally I think by making small adjustments to your daily routine everyone is able to make an impact on the world, and by spreading those routines with other people your contribution grows in size. Ecological adjustments such as making sure to recycle or saving water and energy are tiny changes that can make a difference if your share those ideas and get other people to adopt them. I also believe that by sharing certain information via social media people can really help make a positive impact on the world because your bringing attention to issues that might otherwise be kept hidden to the public. Although I’m not that active on social media I try to repost or highlight news stories that should be heard by students, and in turn they will have the power to make an action with that knowledge, whether it be against or for it, as long as there is some type of change being done.

Sometimes I fall victim to feeling like absolutely insignificant in the world because of how little we are compared to everything else, but the truth is every person has the potential to make change and to influence the people around you. I think that there are natural leaders in the world who excel in making this type of impact easily, and although I don’t consider myself a leader I am still able to influence my inner circle in such a small way like making a funny joke, which gets the people around me to repeat that joke until eventually I just created the next chicken crossing the road. I think the important thing here is just confidence and not being afraid to share your ideas with the world, even if you just start out by just telling your close friends a joke you found really funny. This summer I really want to work on my independence and self-confidence and I think travelling abroad alone is a perfect way to work on that skill. I hope to come back this fall with a lot more confidence than when I left, and hopefully ready to start working on my life in a way that positively impact the world. – Sebastian Abril
