When thinking of solidarity in the Moroccan community I cannot think of something other than REMESS, the non-profit agency where I am volunteering and their support of the Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE). The Social and Solidarity Economy is an economic system where social wellness and development are prioritized over profit generation. REMESS, the Moroccan Network for the Social and Solidarity Economy, is a Moroccan organization which main goal is to implement and promote the social and solidarity economy system in the Moroccan society to provide a fair and equitable welfare for all underrepresented communities. They have had many projects since 2006 that prioritize the individual and their pedagogical and vocational training to create a better socioeconomic initiative that enhances their quality of life while also offering job opportunities in their community.
My days at REMESS have been amazing! The idea of contributing to such an enriching organization fulfills my goal of engaging with an experience that can allow me to contribute to the principles of community engagement.
