Moroccan Culture

The culture of Morocco is extremely beautiful, and I love the way in which Moroccans are heavily attached to it. Moroccans are really welcoming and kind people. I have been able to learn a lot of their mannerisms, principles, social culture, and religion. Their music is amazing and is a combination of different genres. They also have this beautiful tradition of picking up their families members from the airport with a colorful, decorated car!

I have had a little bit of trouble with the food because dishes are usually cooked with low salt and seasonings levels which, as someone from the Caribbean, is not something I am used to, ha! However, I have tried some dishes, such as the chicken Tajine, that are delicious. Besides, they also drink a lot of orange squeezes and living in Florida, orange juice is something I have really often! Something I have also enjoyed is getting henna tattoos, which is something really common here.

Overall, I have felt really comfortable in Morocco as I feel like it is really similar to my homeland, the Dominican Republic. Their concept of community has not reshaped mines, but it has reminded me of the concept of community back in my homeland. However, the language barrier has truly confirmed that I have definitely entered a new community. Walking around the medina, Rabat’s city center, constantly reminds me of the solidarity that highlights Moroccan citizens and, although I cannot properly communicate with them, they do their best to offer their helping hand.
