Daily Rounds in Rabat!

Ever since I started college, I have slowly become the type of person to stay in. I love staying home in a peaceful environment, enjoying my favorite weekend activities. However, being in Morocco has created a conflict between the desire of staying home or the need to go and explore. Luckily, I have made good friends that have forced me to go out and because of this, I have enjoyed amazing experiences such as visiting the mall, the medina, and different cities, such as Marrakech and Tangier!

My daily map, however, can be narrowed down to three essential places: the riad, which is where I am staying, Sale, which is the city where both NGOs I work at are located, and the Medina. The Medina definitely has to be the place where I spend 95% of my time. It is just so amazing! Everything you can ever think of you can find at the medina. Besides, in order for me to get back to the riad, I got to walk through the medina.

Rabat is an amazing city, and it somewhat feels comfortable for me since it looks a lot like the capital back in my homeland, the Dominican Republic. Something I found really interesting about the city is that they have a ground train that they call a “tram”. Moreover, they have taxis that belong to each city and they usually carpool with other passengers. This type of carpooling is very common in my homeland however, they are not taxis, but small cars used for public transportation. It was really confusing for me the first time I ever used a taxi here since I was not expecting to carpool with more people. However, I think this a great way of maintaining the city organized and taking care of the environment!
