For the past two weeks, my day has been starting at 9 am with a lightweight yet delicious Moroccan breakfast composed of tea, fruits, yogurt, and msemmen, a Moroccan tortilla that I love eating with Nutella!
After eating, I head to ARDES (The Regional Association for the Economic and Social Development), the non-profit I am volunteering at. This organization supports minority communities in Morocco, especially immigrants, offering a vocational skills training program that allows beneficiaries to obtain skills in hospitality and tourism management to develop employment opportunities. My work at this agency is not demanding since it only includes providing English classes to the beneficiaries and translating training documents twice a week Mondays and Tuesdays. From time to time, like today, they allow us to support beneficiaries in the kitchen, which is part of their learning program and it is extremely fun! My day at ARDES usually ends at 12:30 pm and then I head to lunch. However, this week I started my second internship at another non-profit, REMESS, the Moroccan Network of the Social and Solidarity Economy, where I have been going straight to after my work at ARDES is done.
At REMESS, I do several tasks to support their ongoing projects. These tasks include writing articles highlighting past projects, translating documents, and proposing ideas to enhance the reach of their website and social media accounts! Besides, I have also been able to prepare presentations describing ongoing projects and reports to provide to their Spanish-speaking partnerships.
After getting home, I usually work on any school assignments and talk to my relatives while I wait for dinner, which is served at 7 pm. Dinners vary, but they usually include rice, meats, legumes, and vegetables.
After I’m done with dinner, I usually stay chatting with other interns at the riad and then get ready for bed, keep working on any assignment, or catch up with my friends back home!
Days like this make my time in Morocco go by fast, but I am enjoying every part of my work!
With love,
From Rabat!
