Limeña at birth, Cusqueña by choice

I am Peruvian, and this is my first time leaving Lima!

I was born and raised in Lima majority of my life. My notion of Peru always revolved around what I had experience in Lima, and since I had never visited other cities of Peru I never questioned it.

Until now. Being in Qosqo has opened my eyes to all the beauties Peru has to offer. Not just in food, but in traditions, customs, nature, and it’s difference of people depending on the region. This is the reason why Qosqo has such a strong sense of community because of how vibrant and different the culture is in comparison to Lima.

I have been able to connect with my Indigenous roots by witnessing the proudness locals have from being from Qosqo. I have tried dishes I have never heard of in Lima. And most importantly, I have connected with locals so much that in a way I feel (and wish) I was from Qosqo too!

It has reshaped my concept of community, since I never thought I could feel so at home in a city that isn’t mine. While also, feel so welcomed by locals and their traditions that make me feel like another Cusqueña in the city.
