The Wonders of Morocco!

During my time in Morocco, I have been able to identify some challenges Moroccans face in their daily life and I was allowed to learn more in depth about these issues after an enriching conversation with Mohamed V University’s International Law and Relations professor, Dr. Taoufiq Gazoulit. Engaging in this pleasant conversation, Dr. Gazoulit explained several constraints that Morocco encounters across the different social, political, and economic aspects of the nation, such as the misdistribution of resources across different communities.

I was able to affirm this situation when comparing different city zones I have explored. Currently, I am staying only 5 minutes away from the Medina, and this has allowed me to spend plenty of time discovering the wonderful economic activities held around this market area. I have been able to try different foods and purchase amazing items but, most importantly, I have engaged with Moroccans citizens who work at the Medina to sustain their families through their local businesses. On the other hand, I have also been able to explore other areas, such as Hay Riad, one of the nicest and most modern areas of Rabat. Through this comparison, I was able to see the way in which the unequal distribution of resources affects the most vulnerable populations of the city. However, the Moroccan nation has many economic wonders, such as the Mohammed VI Tower, which is the second tallest tower in Africa!

Initially, I had the idea of creating a capstone project highlighting this unequal distribution of resources and the strategies taken by Moroccan authorities to manage the immigration attempts to Europe through Moroccan territory. However, the amount of knowledge I have gained in my short time here has allowed me to consider other topics, such as Morocco’s international relations! I still have a few more weeks to spend here, so I will probably learn more interesting facts that will allow me to develop new ideas for my capstone project!

With love,

from Morocco!
