In my TEFL community at FSU, a sense of solidarity is found in everyone’s interests in American culture. During this program, I have met so many people from continents all over the world and all of them come from different backgrounds and world cultures. The one thing everyone had in common was the interest and desire to be immersed in our American society. While most of the people I met had different struggles and issues, all of them had come to Tallahassee to further their education. The people I met were all in the TEFL program so that their comprehension of the English language would help them when they returned back home. The first student I tutored is a lawyer and she joined the program so she could be more versed in the language upon her return to Kuwait. Similarly, I tutoried another student from Columbia whose move to America is permanent and she is studying English so she can have a better job. No matter the background, everyone I have encountered this summer has been passionate about their goals to learn the global language.
