Something that resonates with me among the stories I hear in the media, especially after my summer experience, are stories of refugees fleeing their countries and coming to the United States. One story that I heard and think people should know about is a boat of 114 Haitian refugees that landed in the Florida Keys. The government usually turns these migrants back around to Haiti despite them facing political violence and economic struggles back home. Immigrants of other nationalities do the same thing and are oftentimes released into the United States.
This story didn’t get much coverage in the United States because of some of the assumptions about Haitians within the U.S. community. The immigration laws in Florida have gotten much stricter, which doesn’t fare well for immigrants whose home countries are facing hardships.
In other news, my CapStone Outline is going well; I have most of my parts done, but I’m still debating on changing my topic or simply incorporating my potential topic into my initial topic.
