Reflections on my Summer Experience

Overall, my experience was rewarding in so many ways! It was an opportunity for me to get outside of my comfort zone and interact with the people of my hometown with a concentrated purpose in mind. Volunteering with the English Café has allowed me to challenge myself and my capabilities, as well as gain more knowledge on so much- from discovering more about the immigrant population of Coral Springs, to learning about English teaching techniques and opportunities, to even gaining knowledge on the library system and how it functions! I was especially happy to be able to have a direct impact on the members of my hometown by giving back to my community in a way that I found fun and engaging, as well as become a part of the Northwest Regional Library and English-learner communities.

I’m definitely going to miss all the fun I’ve had teaching English Café, all the funny conversations and learning activities I did during classes, as well as the meaningful conversations I’ve had with the students outside of class. I thank the English Cafe for giving me the opportunity to become a part of a new community.

CapStone Project Update: it’s going well for the most part. It’s easy for me to explain my experience and how it’s shaped my overall view. I’m also able to connect my experience with my future plans at FSU.

The only thing I’m struggling with is debating on tweaking my community-based interest. I’m hoping it’s not too late in the process to make changes to the central interest of my experience. Other than that, I have a lot of faith in the work I’m producing for it!
