I wake up around 6:00AM and get ready to go to work- I work as a summer camp counselor. I take a shower, put my uniform on, and eat breakfast either in my house or in my car on the way to work. Once I clock in, I start my day off by playing games with the campers or talking with my fellow counselors. Days at summer camp usually consist of kickball, pool days, arts and crafts (like the Kenny I made out of fuse beads), Disney movies, field trips, and a lot of 2 Square (a game that the campers and counselors love). Around noon I’ll eat lunch and continue on with my day. Camp ends at 4:15PM every day.
Tuesdays and Thursdays are when I volunteer at the library for my summer experience, so on those days I go to the library after work and sign in at 4:30PM. I record my hours at the front desk, put my volunteer badge on, and head upstairs to where the English Café classes are held. English Café runs from 5:00PM-6:30PM, so I have about 15-20 minutes of free time before class starts. During this time, the head volunteer and I will discuss plans for the day’s lesson and go over material that will be passed out. Tuesdays are the English café session for all levels, so this class is conversation-based and has a very relaxed structure. Thursday classes are separated between beginner and intermediate English class, and I help the beginner class, which is much more structured and activity-based. The adult students have packets, play interactive games, and do other activities that I assist with.
After my experience, I go home, relax, and prepare my lunch and everything else I need for work the next day. I go to sleep pretty early, as the summer camp takes a lot of my energy, so my day ends around 9:30-10PM most nights.
