Resonating Stories

Due to my interest in international affairs, I’m usually pretty caught up on recent news stories through podcasts, articles, and news organizations in social media. The developing news on Maui’s wildfires is something that has resonated with me recently as I’m currently enrolled in FSU’s Emergency Management and Homeland Security certificate. I even could’ve signed up with IAEM FSU to potentially be deployed to Hawaii with the American Red Cross, but the timing wasn’t right with ongoing engagements and I couldn’t make it. I thinks it’s very important to stay informed about current events like because even if we aren’t able to directly aid those in need, being well-informed is crucial to find other ways to help and prevent the spread of misinformation.

The news about the disaster are devastating and helped me reflect on the different roles that citizens, government agents, and the non-profit sector takes on to respond. I can even trace this to my capstone project as the relief efforts for this kind of event require both the federal government and non-profit/private organization sectors. The importance of the cooperation between public and private fields for the well being of its citizens is something I’m very interested in researching in the future.
