My weeks are all structured the same when it comes to my experiences. On monday I wake up at 8, make my bed, get ready, put my scrubs on, and leave to arrive at the clinic at 9. While I am at the clinic I take phone calls, I check patients in, organize paperwork, take vitals and sometimes even translate for the physicians and patients. Time usually goes by pretty quickly and 1 o’clock comes around and I drive back home. I spend the rest of the day either spending time with my loved ones, going for a jog or watching Suits on Netflix.
My next shift is one Wednesday, which is when I scribe for a physician’s assistant at the UHI Clinic. I check the schedule beforehand to see when the first patient is scheduled which is usually at 10am. I arrive at the clinic and prepare to take notes during the visits. At 1pm I drive back home and have some lunch.
On Wednesday nights, I go to sleep a bit earlier because the next day I have a 7am wake up call. Because of traffic it takes me a little over an hour to arrive at the dermatology office located in South Miami. I arrive on time for the start of the day at 8:30am. During my shadowing days, I have seen many surgeries on cancerous moles, cysts, lipomas and more. I have also sat in on many general visits and full body checks. I even got to see the doctor inject botox one day! I usually finish shadowing around 5pm and begin the long drive back home. I usually spend the rest of my Thursday evening watching tv or a movie. On my free days, I like to enjoy Miami by going to the beach. It has been my favorite thing to do this summer!
