At the UHI clinic, a majority of the people I have met working and volunteering have been hispanic. We live in a predominantly hispanic community, so this is important to be able to communicate with a large portion of the patients. Even though I am hispanic, I do feel like I have joined a new community. Many of the workers and volunteers are on a similar path all leading to the goal of becoming a physician. Seeing fellow latin women whose goal is the same as mine has given me comfort and allowed me to see that there are many ways to reach that goal.
During my time at FSU, I have not found a pre-medical community for myself, so this experience has allowed me to find other students that could help me with my journey. Everyone I have talked to has been so supportive and willing to be helpful. It has showed me that when a group of people have similar goals, they will most likely be willing to offer a helping hand or advice.
