Current Events Worldwide

In the media, something that is resonating with me recently is hearing a lot about what’s been happening in Niger, a country in West Africa. Since a coup in Niger, there has been a war of words between the military and the West. Niger holds a french military base and is the world’s seventh  biggest producer of uranium. General Abdourahamane Tchiani overthrew the president in a coup in July, there was a protest with Russian flags all in the streets and even people attacked the French embassy (Tchima Illa Issoufou & Beverly Ochieng, 2023). Many believe that the French have exploited riches and should not have a space in the country of Niger. The government was a target for Islamist militants linked to the Islamic State group and al-Qaeda who are around the Sahara Desert and the semi-arid Sahel just to the south. I think more people should know about what’s happening in Niger because of how little to no media coverage there is. In many places of the world, countries like Morocco, know about everything happening in all parts of the world. I feel as if in America we’re a little more sheltered when it comes to what’s happening in other parts of the world if it doesn’t involve Americans.  The capstone is coming along well. I think that I’m doing okay in terms of the process.

Tchima Illa Issoufou & Beverly Ochieng. (2023, July 31). Niger coup: Why some people want Russia in and France out. BBC News. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-66365376

In my capstone draft, all I’m missing is the finalization of the article the Linguistics Justice League is completing from all the information they’ve taken.
