Mass Coral Bleaching Florida Keys

The type of news that generally resonates with me the most is environmental news. One story that has caught my eye in these past two weeks was the recent mass coral bleaching event in Florida that has resulted from record-breaking high-water temperatures. This hit me specifically hard because I grew up in the Upper Florida Keys – very close to where the impacts have been observed. At some reefs, it has been reported that nearly 100% of the coral has died off. It’s hard to stay hopeful about the future when people put so much effort into an issue for that hard work to just be swept away. One positive thing I can take away from this is that I feel like the media successfully distributed this story. I hope that this will wake up some people and drive them to take action.
