Last Wednesday (7/19) was my last day as an International Rescue Committee (IRC) Youth Mentor. Saying goodbye to my mentees was honestly heartbreaking and overall, bittersweet. I promised I would stay in touch when I come back for the Fall semester.
Throughout our excursions, my mentees have been hanging out with another group of mentees. One of my friends is also an IRC mentor, so we collaborated often so they could all see each other. In the Fall, we plan to occasionally get our mentees together so we can see them, and they would be able to hang out with their friends.
I’ve learned a lot throughout this experience. While I was the mentor, I felt like my mentees taught me a lot through their unique perspectives. This experience has definitely widened my world-view.
As for my capstone project, I plan to start my draft soon. After this experience, I feel like I have a better idea of what to focus on.
