Reflecting on my time at the IRC

I am currently approaching the last week of my International Rescue Committee Youth Mentor experience. As I reflect on my experience, I feel grateful to be able to bond with my mentees this summer! They all have different personalities, interests, and quirks, which has been fun to learn about.

These last few weeks, I’ve discovered they really like being active and playing sports. Taking them outside to do these activities is important, as being outside is key for their development at this age. Unfortunately, they don’t get the chance to go out often, so these experiences were special for both of us. Throughout these last few weeks, we’ve played soccer, basketball, and swam. Personally, while I consider myself an active person, I am not great at sports or athletic at all. So, I’ve had to try my best to keep up with them!

If I were to create a map of spaces I inhabit compared to before I started my experience, I don’t think it would differ. I am still on campus as I am doing an internship at an FSU center!
