Between dives, I spend the majority of my time on base at MCP. The central location on the base is called the Hex, it is a hexagonal-shaped building where volunteers and staff come to eat, do work, record survey data, and chill out. The Hex is also equipped with private lockers and charging plugs useful for storing electronics and personal items. Also, on base, there is a cozy room, a classroom, a kitchen, a library, a dive locker, a compressor room, and a volleyball court.
When I leave base, it is most often when I am diving however, we also make frequent trips to some of the bigger cities such as Dauin and Dumaguete. MCP is currently working at 12 sites in the Negros Oriental. Compared to the spheres I would inhabit before I came to MCP, it is completely different with the exception that I still make time to explore local nature spots. So far, I have visited two waterfalls and a hot spring. The environment changes rapidly from beaches with mangroves to dense, mountainous jungles.
